Solid weekend overall, consistently the quickest of the ex-TRS FT-50s, just missing out on a clean sweep of class victories due to a mistake whilst leading in race 3.

FONZ Round 6 - Taupo (Season Finale)

Championship: P5 (P4 in class and Rookie of the Year)

Overall, a great weekend here in Taupo. We missed the mark a little in terms of car setup for quali but P2 was still a great result and a good start put me in position to win race 1. Unfortunately, races 2 & 3 didn't play out how I wanted and I just missed out on the round win.

I'm delighted to come away with P4 in the Graeme Lawrence Cup and overall Rookie of the Year in my first season of car racing. I've certainly hit my main goal of learning as much as I could over the season and I'm happy with the progress I've made in the car.

Thanks to everyone who has helped me throughout the season, the series sponsors Promains NZ & Blackfox Electrical, and to John Tomlin & Ken Smith for making it possible. Finally, congrats to Zac and Liam for winning the championship in their respective classes.

Positive weekend overall and good to be back on a track I know fairly well. We had good pace all weekend and were rewarded with a podium in all 3 races, just missing that little bit extra in order to win.

My first (and last) time at this brilliant track! Unfortunately, Friday practice was almost completely rained out meaning it wasn't of much use to us. Despite that, our pace was decent from the start and we managed P4 in qualifying!

Races 1&2 were disrupted by safety cars and unnecessary formation laps which was frustrating because I felt I had enough pace to be fighting for the podium or even another win! In race 3 however, I was able to keep pace with the top 3 but there simply weren't enough laps to really attempt a pass.

all in all, a positive weekend against a very strong grid.

Despite having never driven on this track before, the pace throughout practice was promising. Amazingly we managed to get pole on Saturday morning in the Qualifying Race and I claimed my first ever podium in a race car later that day.

We made a few minor setup changes for races 2 and 3 which allowed me to fight for the win. I came close in Race 2 but after a race-long battle I was stoked to take home my first ever car race win in the feature race!

Pleased to be making such great progress in the race car, thanks to Ken Smith, John Tomlin, and @jcawatson for their help and advice.

Big thanks to @promains_nz & @blackfoxelectrical for supporting the series, and to @jswapnz for getting us across the Cook Strait!

First forray into cars

Earlier this week I had my first drive in a race car, a TR86 at the Hampton Downs NZ Racing Academy. Considering I had never driven any car until 3 weeks ago, Daniel and the Academy Team were very helpful and got me close to the times of a leading TR86 driver who was also there. Great experience, so now I just need to find a way of being in a race car every single day.....
